Cristina Gutiérrez and David Cruz win in the medium category, while Yolanda Santos and Óliver Zerpa win in the short race.

Santa Ana square celebrates a family Saturday with music, inflatables and races for the little ones.

The heat did not want to miss the LPA Trail, which in its ninth edition continues to break participation records with about 1,000 participants that consolidate the event as one of the main trail running events in the Canary Islands. The race, promoted by the Insular Sports Institute of Gran Canaria and the Municipal Sports Institute of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and organized by Arista Eventos, demonstrates with its three distances that it is a test suitable for all ages and levels of competition, apart from creating a perfect family atmosphere at the finish line in the Plaza de Santa Ana with concerts and races and inflatables for children.

At 10:00 a.m. the three races took place at the same time: the 21-kilometer race from the Plaza de Santa Ana; the medium distance, 10 kilometers, from the soccer field of the University Campus of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Tafira; and the short distance, 6 kilometers, from the neighborhood of Lomo Blanco. A race that shows in all its distances the two faces of the capital of Gran Canaria, with a route that goes through urban areas such as the neighborhoods of Vegueta, San Juan, Tafira, Lomo Blanco and El Fondillo, but also through natural corners of the city such as the batteries of San Juan, Barranco Seco, the Canary Garden or the final part of the Guiniguada ravine.

The thermometers on the course were around 30 degrees, which made it even more demanding for the participants. In the long distance, Estela Guerra , from the Arista Pro Team, led the race from the beginning to win for the second consecutive year. After her, the podium was completed by the Italian Laura Burzi, who was sixth in the Starter of the last The North Face Transgrancanaria, and the Teror Trail runner Dunia Cruz.

In the men’s category, excitement until the end of the 21 kilometers as Zaid Ait Malek began leading the race, who had up to 40 seconds ahead of the Norwegian Anders Kjaerevik when passing through the University Campus of Tafira. However, in the final zone of the Guiniguada ravine, three kilometers from the finish line, the Nordic runner overtook the North African athlete to hold on to the lead and cross the finish line first in front of the cathedral with a minute and a half advantage. Third was the runner of Tenerife CajaCanarias Aday López, who managed to get on the podium after a comeback in the final stretch of the race.

In the middle distance, Cristina Gutiérrez won with a 50-second advantage over the second, Tatiana Mújica, with Samanta Vega in third place. Meanwhile, David Cruz won the men’s category, ahead of Samuel Santana and David Recco. Before them, the participants of the Short LPA made their debut at the finish line of Santa Ana, a race in which Yolanda Santos was first, 39 seconds ahead of Beatriz Álvarez. In third position finished Marta Padrón. In the men’s category, Óliver Zerpa won with 21 seconds ahead of Cristian González, with Ayoze Rodríguez in third place.

For the second consecutive year, the historic center of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria also hosted the LPA Kids with more than 100 children who enjoyed the sensation of crossing the finish line in front of the Casas Consistoriales of the city. Because the LPA Trail is also consolidated as a family event in which fathers and mothers have been able to run not only the LPA Kids, but also the short LPA and which has also taken into account the categories of cadet training, children and youth in the two shorter distances.

The LPA Trail is organized by Arista Eventos and is sponsored by the City Council of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, through the Municipal Sports Institute (IMD); the Cabildo de Gran Canaria, through the Insular Sports Institute; Tourism of Gran Canaria; the Viera y Clavijo Canary Botanical Garden; the Government of the Canary Islands, with Promotur – Tourism of the Canary Islands; Fred.
